Bollinger bands (BB) is an on-chart trading instrument. It consists of an upper and lower band, which measure volatility and a 20-period simple moving average. The two bands are standard deviations of the price action. Thus, the bands expand and contract on the chart. Kelner Channels is smoother than Bollinger Bands because the former uses an ATR calculation for the width of the price channel, whereas Bollinger Bands use standard deviation. The smoother line is the reason why many consider Keltner Channels better suited for trend following strategies. ATR indicator (Average True Range Indicator) is a volatility indicator.
